Course Objective
The Post Graduate Diploma in Information System and Cyber Security (DISCS) is a 6-months full time program targeted towards grooming students in the arena of human-computer interaction and Information System and Cyber Security. The objective of this course is to enable the student to understand the concepts of network security and learn the techniques of detecting the attacks and securing a network from internal and outside attacks At the end of the course, the student will be able to understand a variety of generic security threats and vulnerabilities, understand the principles and practices of cryptographic techniques, identify and analyze particular security problems for a given application and apply appropriate security techniques to solve security problems. However, this course will not cover installation and configuration of LAN and WAN.

BE / ME or Equivalent (AMIE, AIETE), B.Sc (Engg), MCA (After B.Sc), MCS (After B.Sc), M Sc (Electronics), M.Sc (Instrumentation), MCM (With B.Sc), MBA (Systems), BCS, B.Sc(IT), B Sc (Comp. Sc.), BCA, BIS (Bachelor of Internet Sciences), Bachelor Of E-Commerce.

Computing Background

Sound knowledge of computing fundamentals and fundamental knowledge of Networking.

Course Fees

The total fees for the course is Rs. 66, 000/- (Rupees Sixty Six Thousand only) to be paid by Demand Drafts drawn on any Nationalized Bank in favor of "C-DAC, ACTS" and payable at Pune. The course fee is inclusive of the course material to be provided to the individual student. Candidate needs to update the details of course fees of Rs. 66, 000/- (Rupees Sixty Six Thousand only) on ACTS website & then send the same to C-DAC, ACTS, Pune.

Date & Venue
The course would commence on February 23, 2010 at the Advanced Computing Training School (ACTS), C-DAC, Pune. It may please be noted that DISCS is currently being offered only at the C-DAC Pune centre.
Application Form
Candidates have to first register at the ACTS website i.e. http://acts.cdac.in. Following which a registration number would be generated and the candidates will have to then fill the online form for the Common Entrance Test (CET). The non-refundable registration fee of Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) for the CET is to be paid by DD drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of ‘C-DAC, ACTS’ payable at Pune and sent to:

Candidates are required to give the details on the backside of the DD, like Name of the Candidate, Registration ID, Form No, Contact No and the course applied for i.e. DISCS.

Alternatively, printed Application Forms along with the instruction sheet are also available free of cost at all the Authorized Training Centers (ATCs) of C-DAC. Candidates can fill in the printed application form and attach a DD drawn on any nationalized bank in favour of “C-DAC, ACTS” payable at Pune of Rs.600/- towards registration fees for the CET along with a recent passport size photograph and submit the same at the ACTS, Pune training centre or the same can be sent by speed post / courier only to the address mentioned above.

The photograph must be uploaded on our website for our records and further use. Candidates filling in the Manual (Handwritten) Application Form must submit the passport size photograph along with the Application Form, the same then will be scanned and uploaded by the Center accepting the printed application form. Photographs once uploaded will not be changed under any circumstances whatsoever.

Please note that the upload of photograph is mandatory as this photograph will be used on the admit card for the CET and if the candidate is selected for the course, then the same photograph will appear on the Identity Card and finally on the DISCS Certificate.

An additional Photo Identification (like Driving License /Voters ID card /College ID Card /Passport) will have to be produced by the candidate along with the admit card, at the time of appearing for the online CET at the exam center.
For appearing the CET, candidates are required to download and print the admit card

Selection Process
The Selection process leading to admission in Post Graduate Diploma in Information System and Cyber Security (DISCS) shall unfold in two stages as described below:
Stage -I Common Entrance Test (CET)
The CET would be conducted manual at the centers mentioned in the online application form (please ensure the online application form is having the list of centers for CET). Candidate can select the examination centre and time slot for CET center only after the upload of photograph and receipt of the registration feesof Rs.500 /-(for online) or Rs. 600 /-(for manual) (Whatever the case may be) at C-DAC, ACTS, Pune. Once the candidate selects the date of CET and centre, it will not be changed under any circumstances.

The manual CET of 120 minutes shall consist of 150 questions. Each question shall carry one mark. There will be a negative marking i.e., quarter (0.25) mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Result of CET would be declared online. The CET shall consist of objective type multiple choice questions on Computer Fundamentals, Computer networks ,Operating System and General aptitude.
Syllabus for Common Entrance Test (CET)
Section I: Computing Fundamentals (20 marks)
Evolutions of computers, Computer generations, Computer organization, Primary and Secondary storage, Input-output devices, Computer software, Multimedia, Classification of computers, etc.
Section II: Computer networks (50 Marks)
Introduction computer networks, Network hardware (LAN, MAN, WAN), Network software, OSI and TCP/IP reference Model, Physical layer, data link layer, Network layer, transport layer, Application layer, Session Layer, Presentation Layer, Basic of Router, Switches, Hubs
Section III: Operating System (30 marks)
Overview of Operating System, Type of Operating System, System structure, Process communication, Concurrency, Deadlock, CPU scheduling, Memory Management and virtual memory, File system, I/O system, Protection and Security
Section IV: General Aptitude (50 marks)
Questions shall be modeled on GMAT pattern

Declaration of result
The result of the CET will be displayed on the website along with the percentile score of the candidates on the day of the result mentioned in the schedule. A message clearly indicating whether the candidate has qualified for Stage II will be displayed along with the percentile score in form of a “CET Score Card”. For this purpose candidates need to log on to the website using registration ID and Password.

Stage-II Interview (25/1/2010 to 27/1/2010)
The short listed candidates will have to appear for Stage II i.e. Personal Interview at CDAC,ACTS Pune on the same date and venue as mentioned in the course schedule in the e-brochure at http://acts.cdac.in.

Confirmed admission will be offered to the successful candidates after stage II of the selection process. Candidates accepting the offer of admission are required to pay the course of Rs.66,000/- (Rupees Sixty Six Thousand Only) on or before February 15, 2010 through a DD drawn in favour of ‘C-DAC, ACTS’ payable at Pune.
